LUMI
Lumi is a design installation that aims to unite the people of Budapest, bring some joy into the daily commute of the citizens, and offer a glimmer of hope in a time when everything seems to be going in the wrong direction.
Built around the concept of a carousel and the image of a mushroom, Lumi evokes the organic, 20th-century architecture of the busy transportation hub of the city, Széll Kálmán Square. With a dynamo — a machine for converting mechanical into electrical energy, typically by means of rotating coils of copper wire in a magnetic field — built inside, Lumi produces light when people interact with it, lighting up the unusually dark square with colorful beams of light.
